Mango special train service launched

The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway has launched a ‘mango special train’ service on Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route via Rajshahi for the fourth consecutive time.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan inaugurated the train service around 11.00am on Thursday from Chapainawabganj station as the chief guest.

According to sources, one train will be operated for carrying mangoes to Dhaka every day from Chapainawabganj at 4:00pm.

The train will make a stoppage for loading mangoes at 14 stations on the Chapainawabgonj-Dhaka railway route via Rajshahi. The parcel train may have stoppages at other stations based on parcel booking and unloading.

The number of stations might be increased considering the number of pre-bookings. To transport mangoes, farmers will need to spend up to Tk 1.32 per kg.

This year, the date of launching the service was changed three times. Initially, it was announced that the train would start on May 25, but the authorities backtracked from the decision citing shortage of mangoes.
