RU professor murder: Two convicts likely to be executed today

The Rajshahi jail authority is taking preparations to execute two death-row convicts Dr Mia Mohammad Mohiuddin, associate professor of Rajshahi University’s Geology and Mining Department, and Md Jahangir Alam, caretaker of a building.
They are the death-row convicts in the Rajshahi University Professor Dr S Taher Ahmed murder case.
According to sources, their families have been asked to visit them at the jail on Tuesday noon.
There is no bar to execute the two death- row convicts in the Rajshahi University Professor Dr S Taher Ahmed murder case as the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected a leave to appeal petition on Tuesday morning.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order, rejecting the leave to appeal petition.
Prof Taher’s body was recovered from a drain near his residence, two days after he went missing on February 1, 2006.
On February 3, a murder case was filed at Motihar police station in Rajshahi, following a complaint lodged by his son Sanzid.
