Teesta flowing 25cm above danger level

The water level of the Teesta River is flowing 25cm above the danger level triggered by onrush of water as an embankment has broken down in  North Sikkim of India.

At 7:30pm on Wednesday (October 4), the water flowing at the Dalia point of the Teesta Barrage, the largest irrigation project in the country, measured 52.40cm, which is 25cm above the danger level.

River bank area of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Kurigram and Gaibandha may be inundated as a fresh flood may hit the Teesta basin , according to Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC).

The water of Teesta River has been increasing fast due to damage to the ChungThang dam of Teesta river in the upstream North Sikkim in India, they said coating Central Water Commission (CWC) of India.

Residents near the river bank are passing their days in the panic of floods due to the increase in the water level of Teesta.

The local administration has taken steps to be caution about floods.
