No long-distance buses were seen plying on Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways on second day of the three-day blockade announced by BNP and Jamaat.
After visiting spots on Wednesday (November 1) morning, it was noticed that auto-rickshaw was the only transport to take the ordinary people to their destinations, charging them with additional fare.
Alim, an auto-rickshaw driver, said, “The number of buses on the highway is very low as a result of the BNP-Jamaat blockade. Not a single long-route bus was seen plying since the morning. The ordinary people are going to their destinations by using several vehicles.”
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Naojor Highway Police Station Shahadat Hossain said, “The presence of vehicles on the highway is very thin. A huge number of police have been deployed at different spots to avert any untoward incident.”
