Hamas rocket attack kills 3 Israeli soldiers

The Palestinian armed group Hamas launched a rocket attack on the Kerem Shalom border crossing between Israel and Gaza on Sunday (May 5).

The Israeli army said in a statement that three of its soldiers were killed and 11 wounded in the rocket attack, reports BBC on Monday (May 6).

Hamas's armed wing claimed responsibility of the attack, according to the report.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said 10 projectiles had been fired from an area near the Rafah crossing in southern Gaza. Israel closed the crossing immediately after the Hamas attack. As a result, relief supplies cannot reach Gaza through there. However, other crossings are open.

Meanwhile, according to the reuters, Israel launched an airstrike on Rafah city in southern Gaza on Sunday, immediately after the attack by Hamas. Gaza health officials said at least 19 Palestinians were killed in the attack.
