Shafik Rehman talks with risingbd
Buy two locks and key. Tie each other and then throw its key into nearby river. Floral bequest, in the recent days, cannot persist more, its perishable. So you can offer lock and key each other. Lock can be last long in life. I different countries, presenting lock and key by lovers is an old tradition. In the previous days, beloveds used to write names of their beloveds on the logs of trees. Now the opportunities have lost. Anyway, I think, I will present a garland of lock to my beloved wife this year. Shafik Rehman however, advised beloveds of recent days to tie their love for ever such way.
Shafik Rehman, a name of an icon that is incredibly familiar to people when ever the Valentines Day floats in the discussion table in Bangladesh.
The versatile character Rehman is equally admired specially to the young generation as writer, editor and presenter even in abroad. The ever fresh writer has enough research on human love affairs and relationship.
His fame skyrocketed specially by the famous television talk- show ‘ Lal Golap’. Popular online portal risingbd interviewed the writer also contemporary media personality on the eve of Valentines Day. Tanjina Eva interviewed Shafik Rehman.
Risingbd: What inspired you working on Valentines Day?
Shafik Rehman: Well, personally I had married my wife by love affairs. Factually, I still feel amazing that how a male and female become happy after married by family settlement.
It is also attention-grabbing to me that in a recent survey reads, the rate of divorce have augmented in case those were married by love affairs.
The trend of splitting family have downtrodden in the recent days those are getting married by family settlement.
But I think, marriage by love affairs would continue. From my early age, I married my beloved and left for London with her. Love is more frequent there. Side by side rate of divorce was much higher in London.
From that period, I was thinking how to multiply trend of love affairs to human being in my country. From my early age, I found that in my country, conflicting manner in conjugal life is much higher.
My venture on celebrating Valentines Day in Bangladesh launched on February 14, 1993. The weekly Jaijaidin that was edited by me played a pivotal role in this connection.
Risingbd: What is your own opinion on definition of love?
Shafik Rehman: Well, I frequently tell that love affairs are like chicken pox disease that touches every body. It is better, if it (love affairs) descends early life when the spots of love could wither away very soon.
Risingbd: Your popular television show is Lal Golap. Why you have selected name of the show?
Shafik Rehman: I remain alert over selecting the title of any story, novel, write up and even any program. Name or title is like a sign. The title Lal Golap is much familiar to all. The title Lal Golap can easily reflects the love on common people and easy names can touch readers and audiences fast.
Risingbd: In love affairs, both success and split may happen. Those could not see success in love affairs, what is your comment on them?
Shafik Rehman: Noted singer Sandhay Mukheri gave voice a song ‘ Hoito Kichui Nahi Pabo, Tabu Dur Hote Tomay Valo beshe Jabo’ (So far I would get nothing, still I would love you from far-flung.’) This line of lyric may give some tranquil them.
Let be patience, and let see the final score how the lover and beloved are remaining in future!
Risingbd: Which location you prefer in Dhaka city for offering love?
Shafik Rehman: Actually, there is no such preferable spot for dating or love in Dhaka. I invited former state minister for Home affair in 14 February.
He responded my invitation and pledged if he come in power again to install a Love Park in Dhaka. Personally, I named a street as Love Road at Capital’s Tejgaon area.
If I get power, I would announce national holiday and set up a Love Park where enough security measures but no CC camera to be installed.
Risingbd: People say, first love never be forgotten, do you agree?
Shafik Rehman: All initial events are haunting to us. It is wedged in our mind deeply. Like first day in schooling, first day of flying, first day holding hands of anybody. If you shook hands of anybody first time, it cannot be elapsed- it is perpetual.
Risingbd: Can you find any difference between love affairs of old and recent days?
Shafik Rehman: Previously, the love affairs was knowledgeable, people read many books and there had neatness while now-a-days, the love affair become light and reverse because of excessive using of mobile phones, face book and excessive dating. In the precious days, love letter was only means of expression of love and effective love.
Risingbd: Would you please make any comment on the celebrating this Valentines Day?
Shafik Rehman: Buy two locks of love each. Lock each other and then throw the key to river. Floral gift cannot persist more, its perishable. So you can offer lock each other. Lock can be last long. I different country, presenting lock and key is an old tradition.
In the previous days, beloveds used to write names on the logs of trees. Now the prospects have missing away. I think, I will present a garland of lock to my beloved wife this year.
