Staff Correspondent: Ex-lawmaker, Assistant Organizing Secretary of BNP and ex-president of Chhatra Dal, Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu, died on Sunday noon (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`un).
He suffered a cardiac arrest at Rajshahi Jail around 12.12pm, and he was immediately taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital but the duty doctors declared him dead.
Pintu was serving life-term for carnage at Pilkhana headquarters of paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles force.
Confirming about the death, DIG (prison) of Rajshahi and Rangpur region Bazlur Rashid said that Pintu was taken to RMCH after he complained chest pains and he died while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rais Uddin, chief cardiac surgeon of RMCH, told risingbd.com that Pintu had died before taking him to the hospital.
He collected nomination papers to join the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral race. The Election Commission, however, cancelled his nomination as he was a convict in the BDR carnage case.
On November 5, 2013, Pintu was awarded life-term imprisonment for his involvement in the BDR carnage in 2009.
The court also fined him Tk500,000. Later in January, 2014, the convict filed an appeal with the High Court, challenging his conviction.
