RMG workers withdraw Banani road blockage

The RMG workers, who were blocking roads in Banani area of the capital to protest against the closure of a garment factory without any prior notice since morning, withdrew the blockage after two hours.

Vehicular movement on the Banani road became normal after the agitated workers moved away from street around 10 am on Saturday (May 4) upon request from police and took position near rail line and its adjacent areas.

The garment workers alleged that the authorities hung the closure notice on the main gate without paying the salary for the month of April to its staffs and workers.

Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Sahan Haque said the workers were protesting against the closure of a factory named ‘Apparels Industries Limited’. They blocked the road in front of Sainik Club from 8:30 am. Due to the blockage, severe traffic jam was created on almost all the roads from Mohakhali to Airport.

Additional police were deployed to deal with the situation, the OC said.
