Barrister Rafique-ul Haque
Prominent lawyer and former attorney general Barrister Rafique-ul Haque has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).
He breathed his last on Saturday (October 24) morning at the Ad-din Hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar while undergoing treatment there.
Rafique, also the chairman of the Ad-din Foundation, was kept on life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital since October 21 after his health condition deteriorated.
Rafique was admitted at the hospital on October 15. He was suffering from various old-age complications including anaemia.
Born on November 2, 1935 at Subornopur village in Kolkata, the veteran lawyer had served as the attorney general from April 7, 1990 to December 17 of the same year.
During the caretaker government’s regime in 2007-08, he had lent legal support to top ranking political leaders including the incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
