Transport owners demand to operate vehicles

Leaders of transport sector have demanded to the government to withdraw its instruction on operating public transports.

Lockdown is going on in the country to contain spread of coronavirus infection. However, thinking of the common people, the government has allowed the shopping malls and shops to remain open on some conditions. But during this period all types of public transports have been stopped. The owners of this sector have demanded of the government to allow operating vehicles on some conditions.

Transportation owners alleged that everything is open in the lockdown. Only public transport has remained closed. They also raised question about this. So they want permission to operate vehicles, maintaining health guidelines.

Sobhan Talukder, owner of Kironmala Paribahan, said the government imposed lockdown several times last year due to coronavirus as a result vehicle operating was stopped for months. Millions of transport workers passed their life with untold sufferings. We are now helping the workers as much as we can. But that is not enough.

Sobhan Talukder said shops and shopping malls have remained open in the lockdown. Only public transport has remained closed. Tell me how it is? People are not able to get out of their houses as public transport has remained closed.

Mohammad Yusuf Hossain, manager of Trans Silva Paribahan, said “We are worried about the upcoming. Eid Last year, transport workers faced a hard time during Eid. I don't want it to be repeated again. We appeal to the government, public transport should be opened. We will operate the buses maintaining hygiene rules.”

Humayun Kabir, owner of St. Martin's Transport and vice-president of Comilla Bus Owners' Association, also made the same demand.
