Law Minister Anisul Huq said he has received the application seeking permission to send ailing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for her better treatment.

He made the comment while briefing reporters on Thursday (May 6).

“Khaleda Zia’s application has arrived in the law ministry. After verifying the application, a decision will be taken quickly in this regard considering the humanitarian aspect,” Anisul Huq said.

According to law ministry sources, the application seeking permission to send ailing Khaleda Zia abroad for her better treatment is being reviewed after receiving it from the home ministry. An opinion will be sent to the home ministry after the end of the review. From there it will be sent to the Prime Minister for her approval. The final decision to this end will be taken upon the Prime Minister’s approval.

Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We hope the government will give permission to send ailing Begum Khaleda Zia abroad for her better treatment.”

Earlier on Wednesday (May 5) night, family of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the capital’s Evercare Hospital, applied to the government seeking permission to send her abroad for better treatment.

Shamim Iskandar, younger brother of Khaleda Zia, met Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his Dhanmondi residence and handed an application to him.

Khaleda Zia tested positive for Covid-19 twice in a month – on April 10 and April 24. Her blood report and CT scan results were normal.

She was moved to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Evercare Hospital on Monday after complaining of breathing and other complications.
