Coronavirus situation under control in country, say experts

Bangladesh reported below 5 percent coronavirus infection rate on Tuesday (September 21) after 197 days. the coronavirus detection rate across the country was 4.69 percent in the last 24 hours. Earlier, on March 7this year, the detection rate was 4.3 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 33,327samples were tested across the country. Of them, 1,562 were detected contracting the coronavirus infection. With this, total number of infection climbed to 15,45,800 across the country so far.

Generally, any epidemic is said to be under control if the infection rate falls below 5 percent. Therefore, health experts believe that the pandemic has come under control as the rate of coronavirus infection in Bangladesh has come down at 4.69 percent.

Does lowering the detection rate below 5 percent mean that the situation is under control? In reply, Prof. Nazmul Islam, the spokesperson of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said, “As for the current identification rate, we can say the coronavirus situation is under control in the country. Even then, we must wear masks and follow the hygiene rules when we all want to get out of the home.”

Health expert Professor Farhad Manzoor said, “If the coronavirus detection rate is below 5 percent, we can lead a normal life. However, we must follow the hygiene rules. Those who have not yet been vaccinated should be vaccinated as soon as possible. If the detection rate is like this, all the educational institutions can be reopened in accordance with the health rules.”

The rate of coronavirus infection on July 24 this year was the highest at 32.55 percent. On that day, 20,827 people across the country tested sample for coronavirus. Among them, 6,780 were found positive for coronavirus. On July 24, some 195 people died from coronavirus. A total of 19,046 people died till that day.

From 8:00 am on September 20 to 8:00 am on September 21, some 26 people were reported to death from coronavirus across the country. With this, 27,277 people have lost their lives after infected with coronavirus so far.
