Crude oil import issue: Russian delegation to Bangladesh

An expert delegation from Russia is scheduled to visit Dhaka soon to decide on the issue of crude oil import. The delegates will visit the existing oil refineries in Bangladesh and analyze the methods and usefulness of Russian oil refining here.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen revealed the information while addressing reporters at the ministry on Tuesday (August 16).

The secretary said that India is importing fuel oil from Russia. So, Bangladesh may not have any technical problem in importing fuel oil from there. But there may be shortage of capacity. Because we don’t have that capability like India.

"If we can acquire the capacity to refine Russian crude oil, then we can also import oil from there. But that might be a bit time-consuming," Momen added.

In reply to a question regarding ‘move of payment’ over Russian oil import, he said, Finance Ministry and Bangladesh Bank will take that decision.
