RCC Mayor Liton resigns

AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has resigned from the post of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor. He submitted his resignation to the ministry on Sunday (May 21) afternoon.
It was learned one of Liton’s personal officers went to Dhaka with his resignation letter on Saturday (May 20). The official handed over the resignation letter to the Ministry of Local Government.
Hemayet Akbar Tipu, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Local Government, confirmed the matter.
He said, “The resignation letter of Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton was submitted today afternoon. However, it cannot be certainly stated whether it has been received or not.”
Head of Khairuzzaman Liton’s media wing and joint secretary of Metropolitan Awami League, Ahsanul Haque Pintu said, “The resignation letter has been submitted. It is only a matter of time to be accepted. Our candidate will submit the nomination form to the Election Commission as soon as the ministry gives the letter of acceptance of resignation.”
Rajshahi City Corporation Election Returning Officer’s office sources said, Tuesday is the last day for nomination and submission of candidates in Rajshahi City Corporation Elections. Earlier, Zaker Party leader Latif Anwar picked up the nomination form for the post of mayor on Sunday. Jatiya Party mayoral candidate Saiful Islam Swapan submitted his nomination on the same day.
