Shakib congratulates Tigers

Bangladesh has created history in New Zealand, winning their first-ever match across formats against the Kiwis in their own backyard.

Bangladesh beat New Zealand for the first time in Tests to break a 17-match unbeaten home record. It is only their sixth overseas Test win. But more than the stats, trivia and milestones, what has stood out was how Bangladesh dominated New Zealand, the undisputed rulers of their conditions, for all five days.

Ebadot Hossain was the Player of the Match as the Bangla Tigers handed the Kiwis an 8-wicket defeat at the Bay Oval Test. The fast bowler claimed his career-best 4-39.

On the fourth day,  Ebadot's fiery spell left New Zealand at 147-5 at stumps, giving them only 17 runs lead. Bangladesh hoped to wrap up New Zealand's second innings quickly on fifth day and set a smaller target for them to win the game.

On the fifth morning, Ebadot Hossain took two wickets to take his figures to 6-46, the first six-for by a Bangladesh fast bowler in more than eight years.

Taskin Ahmed took three wickets while Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up the last wicket to fall. The home side, who lost their last five wickets for 15 runs, lasted only 56 minutes on the fifth day, folding for a lead of only 39.

angladesh took their sweet time reaching the 40-run target, in 16.5 overs during an extending the first session.

Shakib Al Hasan, who skipped the NZ tour citing family reasons, congratulated Team Tigers on his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday. Shakib tweeted a couple of times during and after the epic match.

"What a way to start the year for Bangladesh cricket. Big congratulations to captain, players and coaching staff," the southpaw tweeted.

Shakib was initially included in the Test squad before finally being replaced by Fazle Rabbi as his 'official' request to skip the tour was accepted by BCB.
