Tourist gang-raped in Cox’s Bazar: Hotel manager detained

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel detained a person for his alleged involvement in female tourist gang-raped incident in Cox’s Bazar.
The detainee is identified as Riaz Uddin Chhoton, 33, a manager of Zia Guest Inn Hotel in Cox’s Bazar.
RAB-15 Senior Assistant Director also additional police super Md. Abu Salam Chowdhury confirmed the matter on Thursday evening (December 23).
RAB said, two suspected rapists were identified after checking CCTV footage. Later, the victim woman recognized them when the footage was shown.
The victim said, she traveled from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar on a family vacation on Wednesday morning. There they stayed at a hotel at Holiday Junction. In the afternoon, her husband locked into an altercation with a stranger at Laboni Point after he received a bumping with the stranger.
Following the incident, three young men in an auto rickshaw picked her up while some other strangers picked up her husband and their 8-month-old child in another auto rickshaw from in front of the tourism golf ground adjacent to the stadium in the evening.
Later, the three men gang-raped her behind a makeshift tea stall located behind the tourism golf ground. Then, they took her to Zia Guest Inn where they gang-raped her again. The rapists fled away after they locked the hotel room door from outside, threatening her to kill her husband and children if she shared the matter to anyone.
