Economic Correspondent: The country’s electronic giant ‘Walton’ is manufacturing no-frost refrigerators with energy efficient inverter technology based compressors. Walton gave a name titled ‘Intelligent Inverter’ to such refrigerators. The local company is marketing these fridges at affordable rates.

The Walton officials said, uses of inverter technology’s compressors in Walton refrigerators are resulted in not only reducing the electricity cost of the users but also meeting the standard of Europe and America. The releases of ‘intelligent inverter’ no-frost fridges increased the company’s monthly sales by 15 percent.

Mentionable, inverter technology based refrigerators are being used in the European markets. Such technology’s refrigerators have already got very much popularity in many countries. To compete in the global market as well as to reach the world’s latest technology’s refrigerators to the local customers, Walton started the production of inverter technology’s world-class no-frost refrigerators at its own factory at Chandra in Gazipur. After massive experiment at Research and Development Centre, Walton successfully released some models of inverter technology based no-frost refrigerators in the local market during the last couple of months.

The officials said, Walton released eight (8) models of intelligent inverter refrigerators of different capacities, including 323 liter, 348lt, 386lt, 396lt, 430lt, 512lt, 526lt and 585 lt. Among these, 3-door no frost refrigerator (526lt) is receiving sound response from the customers. More 7 models of no-frost refrigerators would be introduced in the local market by June next.

Dwelling on the distinctive features of intelligent inverter refrigerators, Walton Group’s Executive Director (Sourcing Engineering Dept.) Ashraful Ambia said, the inverter technology’s no-frost refrigerators usually consume 30 to 40 percent less electricity than the induction or general technology’s fridges.

The compressors with inverter technology never switches off even when the temperature stabilizes, but runs at a slower speed maintaining the temperature inside the refrigerators, he said adding, thus these compressors consume comparatively low electricity.

Along with the local market, such sorts of refrigerators will be exported to the developed countries like Europe and America, he said adding, thus Walton is manufacturing these fridges in accordance with the standard of developed countries.

Walton Group’s Executive Director and Marketing Head Amdadul Hoque Sarker said Walton made a surprise in the local fridge market through the introduction of intelligent inverter no-frost refrigerators. Already, such kind of released refrigerators has turned into hot cake among the customers.
The introduction of inverter technology refrigerators is also resulted in increasing the monthly sales by 15 percent more, Sarker added.

According to Walton, the local company will initially manufacture 20 models of different capacities’ no-frost refrigerators with inverter technology compressors, which would be released in the local market in every month.

Walton fridge R&D Department’s First Senior Additional Director Taposh Kumar Majumder said, two kinds of technologies are generally used in fridges. Of which, one is known as induction technology and another is inverter technology, he said.

AC motor is used in the compressors with induction technology while DC motor is used in the compressors with inverter technology, he said adding, the electricity consumption is very much lower in DC motor compared to AC motor.

A compressor with inverter technology works very much like a car accelerator. When the speed required is more, the acceleration is more, and when it is less, and then the acceleration is less. This makes sure that during summer months when cooling load is more, the compressor works at peak capacity taking more electricity. But during winter months when cooling load is less, the compressor works less there by consuming less electricity. Even in summer month, the night temperature is less than the day temperature and thus electricity savings happen in night when compressor can run at a lesser speed.

In an “on” “off” cycle of a regular refrigerator, inside temperature varies throughout. But in case of inverter technology, temperature is more stable. Thus, the amount of noise made by the refrigerator is much less in refrigerators with inverter technology as compared to the regular ones. Also energy or electricity consumption is much less when the temperature stabilizes.
