4 to die for killing auto-rickshaw driver

Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Four people have got death penalty for killing an auto-rickshaw driver in district’s Boalkhali upazila.

Syeda Hosne Ara of Public Safety Tribunal passed the order on Monday noon.

Those given the death penalty are Nurul Alam, Abul Kalam, Md Kausar and Md Rubel. The two who were awarded life imprisonment were Ariful Islam and SM Noimuddin.

Only Kausar and Noimuddin are behind bar. The four others are still absconding.

Confirming the matter to risingbd.com, Public Prosecutor of Public Safety Tribunal Jahangir Alam said that the accused rented an auto-rickshaw for going to a majar. Later, they killed driver Yusuf at Gomdandi Fultal area and fled away with the auto-rickshaw on May 3, 2008.

Police recovered the body a day after the murder.

The victim`s cousin Hashem filed a case with Boalkhali Thana.

Syeda Hosne Ara of Public Safety Tribunal passed the order over the murder case after deposition of 17 people on Monday noon.
