Indian EC issues notice to Modi, Rahul

The Election Commission of India has taken cognisance of alleged Moral Code of Conduct violations by Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Both parties had raised allegations of causing hatred and division based on religion, caste, community, or language.
 The commission has sought a response from Modi and Gandhi by April 29, 11 am.

In their complaints to the commission, the BJP accused Gandhi and Congress accused Modi of making divisive speeches on religion, caste and linguistic issues, notices from the panel said.

The BJP has said in its complaint that Gandhi sought to create divisions based on linguistic and cultural issues.

India is holding the world's largest election over seven phases, with votes due to be counted on June 4.
