Solar power plant connects to national grid

Staff Correspondent: The country’s first solar power plant has been added to the national power grid supplying electricity.

The 3MW plant was constructed at Sarishabari in Jamalpur.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the solar power plant through a video conference from Ganabhaban on Sunday.

She also inaugurated a 400KW photovoltaic power plant in Shalla of Sunamganj, 225MW combined cycle power plant in Chittagong’s Patia and a power plant in Chapainawabganj with a capacity of 100MW.

The Power Development Board (PDB) provided the land to a organization named ‘Engreen Sharishabari Solar Plant Limited’ to build the power plant. Germany’s IFI Eriksen AG, Bangladesh’s Concord Pragatee Consortium and Jupiter Energy invested in the first solar plant in the country.

The government has also a plan to provide 332MW of power by launching five additional solar power plants across the country in the next year.
