Indefinite transport strike in Sylhet

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: The movements of all kinds of public transports were suspended in Sylhet division from early Saturday following a strike called by District Microbus Association.

The District Transport Labourers Union joined the strike which has been called demanding the release of three transport labourers detained by police.

Shah Ripon Ahmed, President of Sylhet District Microbus Association, said the strike began at 6.00am today will continue for indefinite time if the arrested labourers are not released.

Meanwhile, SM Rokon Uddin, Additional Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said: "Two transport labourers were detain from in front of Sylhet Law College on Friday night with '4-litres of alcohol'. Later a clash erupted among law enforcers and transport labourers while they set barricade in Upasahor Point. Two police personnel and few labourers were injured in the clash. Later, another labourer was arrested from the spot."
