Father, son held over RU teacher murder

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Police on Friday morning detained a man and his son over murder of RU Prof AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee from Bagmara upazila of the district.

The detainees are identified as Abdul Hakim, 63, teacher (Rtd) of Bagmara Pilot High School and his son Ariful islam, student of Bagmara college of the upazila.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Md Shamsuddin confirmed the matter at a press briefing on Friday afternoon.

Earlier, Raihan Ali, 32, the imam of a mosque in Siddiquee’s village Dargamarhia, Munsur Rahman, 48, a teacher of Gopalpur Madrasa and Hafizur Rahman, a leader of Rajshahi metropolitan ward unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, were arrested over the murder of the English Department professor.

On April 23, Prof Rezaul was hacked to death within 50 metres of his residence in Shalbagan of Rajshahi city.
