New steps needed to solve traffic jam: Muhith

KM Hasnath: Finance Minister Abul Maal A Muhith said that new initiatives needed to solve traffic jam problem in Dhaka.

The Minister today said, “I recommended a solution to solve the traffic jam in Dhaka in 2011 which was not implemented yet. Day by day the traffic situation is becoming worse.”

Providing emphasis on long term planning, Muhith said that the rate of population growth is six percents. If satellite town or small town and development can be made then pressure on capital will be reduced.

The Minister told risingbd.com that another issue traffic control which is very important to solve traffic jam. Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) took a traffic manual task in this regard.

Following the issue I will talk with them (BRTA) with my personal suggestions, he said.

Muhith also said, “I think traffic department should remain out of control of police department.”   

Meanwhile, the minister suggested nine points to solve the traffic jam crisis.
