Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Death-row convict Mir Quasem Ali`s wife has said that the family will not take any decision about his mercy petition until their son who has been missing returns home.

She spoke to journalists outside the jail around 4pm after spending nearly two hours with her war criminal husband.

She said, "My son Ahmed Bin Quasem, a lawyer, has been picked up by plainclothesmen. We are unable to decide whether we would file the mercy petition or on any other matter."

She did not make any further comment and then left with the other family members on an ambulance.

The family members of the death-row convict met him at Kashimpur jail in Gazipur on Wednesday.

Mir Quasem’s family members, including his wife, two daughters, two daughters-in-law and his nephew and their four children entered the jail gate around 1:45 pm and got out of it around 3:45 pm.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Supreme Court released the full text of its verdict that upheld the death sentence for Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali for crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971, rejecting the petition seeking review of the verdict.

Research Officer of International Crimes Tribunal Famin Foysal sent the verdict copy wrapped with red clothe to Dhaka central jail on Tuesday night.

On November 2, 2014, International Crimes Tribunal-2 handed down the capital punishment to him over crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.

The Appellate Division upheld the verdict on March 8 this year and released the full text on June 6, hours after which ICT issued a death warrant.
