Riders thrash Vikings to top BPL table

Sport Corresponded: Rangpur Riders have thrashed Chittagong Vikings by 9 wickets in the 15th match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to top the point table of the tournament.

 

Batting first at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong on Tuesday, the local team scored 111 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Rangpur surpassed the target in 17 overs losing only one wicket.

 

Chittagong captain Tamim Iqbal`s 36 off 43 balls was the top score for his team.

 

Rangpur captain Shakib Al Hasan bagged 2 wickets for 16 while Arafat Sunny got another 2 for 27.

 

Chasing a small total of 112 runs, Ranpur openers Soumya Sarkar and Jahurul Islam almost took the team to home. They contributed 102 runs in the opening stand.

 

Jahurul scored 47 off 44 balls with 4 fours and 1 six before getting caught by Tamim off Shafiul Islam while Soumya was fourtanet enough to get his first half century of the current season.

 

The 22 year old opener was unbeaten on 58 off 56 balls hitting 8 fours and 1 six. He was adjudged Man of the Match.

 

With the win, Rangpur bagged 8 points from 4 victories off 6 matches and topped the point table.

 

On the other hand Chittagong remained in the bottom of the table with only one win off 6 matches.
