AL leader who files case against UNO expelled

Staff Correspondent, Barisal: Barguna Awami League (AL) leader Syed Obaidullah Saju, who filed a defamatory case against former Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Agailjhara, has temporarily been expelled from the party.

The central Awami League took the decision in a meeting held at the Prime Minister's official residence Gonobhabon on Friday afternoon.

Talukder Md Younus MP, general secretary of Barisal District Awami League, confirmed the news.

Syed Obaidullah Saju was the religious affairs secretary of Barisal District Awami League. He is also president of Barisal Lawyers' Association.

Confirming the news, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader said he was temporarily expelled according to Article 47/KA of Awami League's constitution.

Obaidullah Saju filed Tk 5 crore deformation case against Tariq Salman with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court in June for allegedly distorting the portrait of Bangabandhu painted by a child in an invitation card on the occasion of Independence Day last year.
