Six Brac varsity students go on hunger strike

Staff Correspondent: Six Brac University students have started a hunger strike protesting an assault on a lecturer of the university.

The students also demanded removal of the university registrar for his alleged involvement on the teacher assault. Following the issue, the students started the hunger strike from 11:00am on Thursday on the main campus of the university in capital's Mohakhali.

The six students are-  Kamrun Nahar, Irfanul Rahman, Sadia Afrin and Sheikh Noman of Law Department, Akash Ahmed of Mathematics and Natural Science Department and Yasinur Rahman of Business School.

The protesters said that lecturer of the Law Department Farhaan Uddin Ahmed got termination letter from the university Human Resource department on July 30. But, the teacher refused to accept the latter. At one stage, some stuff of registrar department assaulted the teacher.

Following the issue, the students staged protest programme. Later, the protesters were also allegedly assaulted by security guards on August 1.
