Sylhet city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury
Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital from Sylhet Central Jail on Monday noon after suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes.
Abdus Sagir Mia, Jail Super of Sylhet Central Jail, said Ariful Haque is suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes. He has also severe chest pain. His physical condition started deteriorating from Sunday night. Considering his illness, he has been admitted to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Shyama Haque, wife of the mayor, said Arif is now under the supervision of cardiologist Prof Sahabuddin and medicine specialist Dr Shishir Bashak.
Ariful Haque Chowdhury is now in jail in the murder case of former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria.
On January 27, 2005, five people including Kibria were killed in a grenade attack after attending a rally in Boidyer Bazar of Habiganj.
