400 tourists stranded on St Martin’s Island

Around 400 tourists have been stranded at Saint Martin’s Island in of Cox's Bazar following suspension of vessel operation due to inclement weather.

Local weather office’s assistant meteorologist Adur Rahman on Thursday (October 22) said, heavy to light rainfall is being continued since morning. The low pressure over the Bay of Bengal turned into a depression. As a result, the sea is rough now.

Cox's Bazar has been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three. The highest rainfall for the last 24 hours till today was recorded at 74 millimeters in the district.

Saint Martin's Union Parishad chairman Noor Ahmed said, tourists got stuck on the island as vessel plying on Cox’s Bazar-Saint Martin's island route remained suspended due to the rough weather.

The tourists will be sent back once the sea becomes calm, he added.
