Don’t worry about flood: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said there is nothing to be worried about flood.

The government has taken all measures to deal with this situation.

She made the remarks at a views-exchange meeting on the rehabilitation of flood victims at Sylhet Circuit House on Tuesday (June 21).

The Prime Minister said assistance would be provided following the list of flood victims in Sylhet region.

“I told the food minister that floods would come. Water may enter food godowns. So, I advised him to take steps in a bid to protect fertilizer and food godowns. This year floods have come late. Floods actually happen twice or thrice. This is the game of nature. However, this is an unusual situation in Sylhet. The floods have caused severe damage to crops”, she said.

Farmers will be given seeds and fertilisers so that they can cultivate crops again after the flood, said the prime minister.

She said discussions have been held with the disaster management committee. Dry food, medicines and drinking water are being provided.

“This region has been flooded in the month of Ashar. Then flood will hit the central and southern regions. So, we have to take preparations”, she said.

The prime minister said high roads would not be built in Sylhet and Sunamganj areas. There will be elevated roads there. Rivers will be dredged every year, she said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts by helicopter to monitor flood situation.
