2 sued for posting anti-govt Facebook posts

A case has been filed against two leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir for posting anti-government remarks via social networking sites Facebook.

The two Shibir leaders are- Nausin Mostary Mia Saheb, former financial secretary (BaitulMal) of Dhaka College and Sayem Ahmed, organizing secretary of Sylhet South Surma West Police Station.

On December 22, Awami League Leader Imran Ali filed the case against them with the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (Cyber Crime) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Following the issue, Cyber Crime Unit’s additional deputy police commissioner Nazmul Islam said, the investigation is underway. The accused will be brought to book.

Of course, freedom of speech is regarded with respect. But, various kinds of steps including arrest warrant and tougher action have been taken against the propagandist for spreading anti-government rumors, he added.

According to the case statement, the two Facebook users are posting various Facebook status attacking the image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ministers, Secretaries, Judicial Department, Army, RAB, police and other Government firms intentionally. The accused are spreading confusing information criticizing various development activities of the Awami League government. Even, they are spreading misleading data about Army, Police, and RAB forces.

It was known that the AL leader filed a general diary (GD) against the two Shibir leaders with Rampura police station on December 8. The GD number - 409. Although the duo were alerted over the issue but they have continued their negative activities. Later, the AL leader filed a written complaint (Serial no 1831) with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the DMP Commissioner on December 14. The complaint was accepted as a regular case by the Cyber Crime Unit on December 22. The Case Number - 17/020.

Cyber Crime Unit sources said, over one thousand Facebook IDs have been identified for posting rumour using Facebook. Details of them were sent to the airport securities so that these users could not flee the country. These accused will be arrested if they try to enter into the country from outside through airports. Already 44 people have been arrested in 35 cases.

Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the media that no propagandists will be spared. They will have to face trial. The law enforcers are working in this regard.
