2 killed in Rajbari ‘gunfight’

Rajbari Correspondent: Two people were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in district’s Pangsha upazila in the early hours of Friday.


The dead were identified as Kamal Hossain Kamal (47) and Omar Kha (35). Police said they were accused in murder cases and listed outlaw party leaders.


The gunfight took place around 3.15am in a Mehagani orchard of Purba Patta union.

 

Officer-in-Charge of Pangsha Thana Abu Shama Iqbal Hayat said Kamal and Omar were arrested earlier, and as per their confessional statements, a team of Pangsha Thana Police conducted a drive in the area for arm haul. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire to police, triggering a gunfight. Kamal and Omar received bullet injuries in the gunfight and they were taken to Rajbarhi Sadar Upazila Hospital, but the duty doctors declared them dead.Other criminals managed to flee, the OC said.


Police also recovered two shutter guns, one gun and five rounds of bullets. Five policemen were injured during the gunfight.
