40-day programme to mark National Mourning Day

Staff Correspondent: The ruling Awami League (AL) announced a 40-day-long programme to mark the National Mourning Day.

The party announced the programmes in a bid to commemorate the 40th anniversary of martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Awami League`s Deputy Office Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, has confirmed this in a press release on Friday.

According to the party statement, the party, its associate, likeminded and friendly bodies will organise programmes from the early hours of August 1 to September 9 marking the day.

The press release says, "The programmes of the month of mourning will be initiated with a candle light vigil towards Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the capital at one minute past zero hours on August 1."

Marking the anniversary of the August 21 grenade attack, wreaths will also be placed at the temporary memorial of the martyrs in front of AL central office at Bangabandhu Avenue at 4 pm.
