Dramatist Atiqul Haque Chowdhury dies

DHAKA, June 17: Veteran dramatist Atiqul Haque Chowdhury, who was adviser of programme Ekushey Television, died at a Dhaka hospital of heart failure, officials say. He was 82.

Officials at private Shamarita Hospital at Panthapath said the eminent playwright passed away at around 9:45pm on Monday.

A duty nurse at the ICU said Chowdhury was admitted there on Jun 15.

He was also suffering from prostate cancer.

Atiqul Haque Chowdhury was born at Ulania in Barisal district on December 15, 1931. He started his career at the then Radio Pakistan in the 1960s. Later, he worked at Bangladesh Television. He worked as the Deputy Director General at BTV.

Late Atiqul Huq Chowdhury worked as a teacher for long 11 years at the Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University.

Besides, he worked as Director, Programme of Ekushey Television for a long time. He was serving as the advisor of Ekushey TV before his death.
