Drug dealer killed in Tangail 'gunfight'

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: A suspected drug peddler was killed in a shootout with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Golra area of Paikra union under Kalihati upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Md. Ruhul, 28, son of Abdul Gani.

Following the gunfight, two RAB personnel also received injury.

Tangail RAB-12 deputy commander and operation Major Mohammad Rabiul Islam acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB conducted raid in the area. Meanwhile, sensing presence of RAB, drug traders opened fire aiming the RAB personnel. In reply, the elite force also opened fire which triggered the gunfight. At one stage, the drug traders fled the scene. Later, the law enforcers found bullet-hit Ruhul in the area and sent him to Tangail General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.



A one-shooter gun, one-round of bullet, heroin and Yaba pills were recovered from the spot.

The drug trader was wanted in several drug cases, the RAB official added.
