Khaleda Zia’s bail suspended until 8 May

Staff Correspondent: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has suspended the bail order of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia until 8 May in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The four-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain issued the order around 9:30am on Monday, after accepting the leave to appeal petitions challenging Khaleda Zia's bail.

In the same order, the court also directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the state side and petitioner to file precise petitions within next two weeks.

Lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state and lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the ACC during the hearing in the court.

Earlier, on Sunday, the court set the date (March 19) concluding its hearing on two petitions filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the state.

On March 15, the government and the Anti-Corruption Commission filed separate leave-to-appeal petitions with the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order that granted a four-month interim bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust Corruption case.
