RMG workers stage demo blocking road in Savar

A group of readymade garment (RMG) workers put barricades on the road in Birulia area of Savar demanding arrears on Sunday morning.

The barricades were put on the road in Birulia area in front of Sark Knitwear Limited garments.

The workers alleged that at least five of their colleagues were injured when they were assaulted by police in front of Sark Knitwear Limited garments.

They said the authorities announced shutting down the factory for an indefinite period in the morning instead of paying salaries of the workers.

This announcement of shutting down the factory prompted the workers to block the Savar-Mirpur regional road, causing massive traffic gridlock on both sides.

Police and the demonstrating workers are facing off in the area till filing the last report.

Zakaria Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (Operation) of Savar Model Police Station, said, “They are trying to communicate with the factory owners for clearing dues of the workers.”
