Sport Desk: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly received an anonymous death threat letter at his home forbidding him to attend a district felicitation function later this month.

Ganguly who is now president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, reportedly got the letter by post on Saturday. He was scheduled to visit Midnapore for a function organised by the district sports federation on January 19.

The former India captain said he had lodged a police complaint about this. "I have intimated the whole matter to the police as well as the organisers of the programme there," he said on Monday.

Without revealing the whole content of the letter, he only said the letter warned him of grave consequences if he dares to visit the district.

Asked whether he will be travelling for the programme now, the southpaw said, "I have not decided yet and am waiting to hear from the authorities on this."

Ganguly has recently taken active part in roping in sponsors for the development of not only cricket but all sports in different districts. His visit to Birbhum district in November almost became a festive occasion with a huge crowd attending his programme.
