Man breaks world record for hoverboard flying (video)

International Desk: A Frenchman appears to have broken the world record for hoverboard flying, having zoomed for more than a mile on the futuristic device.

Guinness World Records claimed on its website that Franky Zapata flew 7,388ft, just off the coast by the French town of Sausset-les-Pins.

"This has really been a life’s work," Mr Zapata told the Guardian after breaking the record.

"I open my arms because it helps me control my movements, but when you open your hands and you feel the wind go through your hand and you have nothing under your feet — it’s hard to describe, really.

"You have to experience this moment in your life."

Astonishing images show how the 37-year-old performed the stunt for more than 165ft above the water.

Mr Zapata used a Flyboard Air device which was developed by his company, Zapata racing.

The company says the hoverboard can fly for roughly ten minutes and can reach speeds of up to 90mph.

He has already achieved a Guiness World Record for doing 26 backflips.
