Zira Suman killed in Comilla `gunfight`

Staff Correspondent, Comilla: Zira Suman, a top snatcher of Comilla, was killed in an alleged `gunfight` with Detective Branch (DB) of police early Wednesday.


The gunfight took place near Palpara Bridge under Comilla Adarsha Sadar upazila at around 2:00am.


The dead Belal Hossain alias Zira Suman, 30, was son of Shahjahan Saju of Ashoktola area in the district town. Police also detained Suman`s cohorts Jamal, Zahid, Shapan and Zakir.


Confirming the matter, Kamal Shah Akand, A Sub-Inspector (SI) of DB police, said a pistol, five rounds of bullets and three LG have been seized from their possession.


Suman was accused in several cases, including robbery and attacking police, said DB official.


On Nov 6 last year, a police officer was shot during a raid to nab Suman at Comilla’s Jhautala. Suman’s accomplices had then snatched the officer’s pistol.
