Heavy rush at Shimulia-Kathalbari Ghat

The Shimulia-Kathalbari Ferry Ghat is experiencing heavy pressure of vehicles.  Hundreds of Dhaka-bound passengers are also waiting in line to cross the river.

Many vehicles were seen standing at the ferry ghat when the report was filed on Friday noon.

The pressure of vehicles is still rising there as only seven ferries out of 16 were running to carry vehicles and people.

As a result, passengers are using launches and speedboats to cross the Padma river.

Menawhile, erosion by the Padma river has turned serious in Shimulia Ferry Ghat area of Munshiganj.
The river devoured Shimulia Ferry Ghat No-4 early Thursday.

In the interval of nine days, two out of four ferry ghats of Shimulia went under the water. The erosion is now moving towards BIP Ferry Ghat 2. Earlier, the third Ro-Ro ferry ghat drowned on July 28.

For this reason, the ferry service on the Shimulia-Kathalbari river route was suspended about five and half hours Thursday.
Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Shimulia Ferry Ghat, Safaet Ahmed said two out of four ferry ghats of Shimulia are active as a result we are not able to operate all ferries.
