Juba League activist hacked dead in Khulna

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: A Juba League activist was hacked to death by rivals at North Khal bank road of the city's Amtola area early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Harunur Rashid Sumon, 35.

Police held three activists of Juba League for their suspected involvement in the incident.

Local sources said Juba League activist Sheikh Selim took Sumon to a club of North Khal bank road from Sandhya Bazar around 1:30am on Saturday and beat him there mercilessly. At one stage, Selim called Sumon's family members and told them to take him to a hospital as his condition deteriorated. Later, he was rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital where attending doctors declared him dead.

Momtajul Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonadanga Model Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said Juba League activists Sheikh Selim, Jahid Hassan Rasel and Razu Hawlader were held by conducting a drive Saturday morning.
