Padma bridge graft: HC dissatisfied as commission not formed yet

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has expressed dissatisfaction as the government has yet to form an inquiry commission to identify the people who created false stories about corruption into Padma bridge construction.

The court also asked the authorities concerned of the government to submit a report by August 31 after forming the commission.

The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order on Wednesday.

Earlier on March 20, the court asked the government to submit the progress report over formation of the commission by May 7.

The HC on February 15 issued a rule asking the government to explain in two weeks why it should not be directed to form an inquiry commission to identify the people who created false stories about corruption into Padma bridge construction.

In the rule, the court asked the authorities concerned of the government to show cause why it should not be ordered to bring the real culprits behind the creation of such false stories to trial.

The HC also directed the cabinet secretary to submit a report if any step is taken in line with the rule in 30 days.
