Staff Correspondent: A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a petition with the High Court (HC) challenging the decision taken by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) to make three streets of the city off limits to rickshaws.
Advocate Aynunnahar Siddiqua submitted the petition on Wednesday as a supplementary to a pending writ petition filed in 2012.
Advocate Aynunnahar said an HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and KM Kamrul Kader may hear on the supplementary petition tomorrow (Thursday).
In the petition, the SC lawyer sought a stay order on the decision to make the streets off limits to rickshaws and to know which transport the authorities have arranged for people alternative to rickshaws.
On July 3, the city corporation announced to make the three roads off limits to rickshaws. The decision was taken to ease traffic congestion in the areas.
Those roads stretch from Kuril to Sayedabad via Rampura and Khilgaon; Gabtoli to Azimpur via Asad Gate; and Science Laboratory intersection to Shahbagh intersection.
