Central Bank issues directives to provide loans flood-affected farmers

The central bank has issued directives to provide loans to flood-affected farmers for northern and north-eastern region of the country.

Agricultural Credit Department of Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued a notification in this regard on Monday (June 27).

According to the notification, the loan would be applicable to flood-hit areas of the country like Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Kishoreganj and Netrokona as well as flood-hit Sherpur, Jamalpur, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and districts identified by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. At the client level, the banks allocated under the special fund of Tk 3,000 crore for disbursement of agricultural loans at 4 percent interest rate will have to ensure distribution of at least 40 percent of their unused status in flood-affected districts. This instruction will be effective immediately.
