Bangladesh has strength to overcome economic crisis: IMF

International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said that Bangladesh has strength to overcome economic crisis.

Rahul Anand, division chief in the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department, made the observation during a virtual press conference with Bangladesh journalists on Tuesday (August 17).

According to IMF, decision on providing loan to Bangladesh will be finalised in October. There is no relation of the fuel price hike in Bangladesh with the IMF’s loan.  

Rahul Anand said Bangladesh is not in a crisis situation and its external position is very different from several countries in the region.

Citing that Bangladesh has a low risk of debt distress and is very different from Sri Lanka, he said Bangladesh’s external debt is relatively low, close to 14% of GDP.
