5 get life term for killing trader

A Manikganj court has sentenced five people to life imprisonment in a case filed over killing of trader Mazam Ali Bepari.

The court has also fined Tk 20,000 each, in default, they will have to serve another 6 months rigorous imprisonment.

Manikganj Additional and Sessions Judge Court Judge Sabina Yasmin gave this verdict in the presence of the defendants on Monday (March 18) noon.

The convicts are – Md Sohag, at Dakshin Char Mokimpur village of Manikganj Sadar Upazila, Habia Begum, Shahinur Islam alias Neron, Nadhan of the same village and Md Alamgir of Dhakuapara village.  Besides, Khalil, Ali Akbar, and Tutul were acquitted.

According to the case statement, on August 3, 2015, at around 10 pm, the accused Sohag called the kitchen market trader Mazam Ali from his house and hacked him to death with the help of other accused. Later on August 4 around 6 am, Mazam's body was found on the northwest side of Sohag's tin-shed house. In this incident, Jeleka Begum, the wife of the deceased, filed a case.
