Jubo League leader suspended over alleged computer theft

A local Jubo League leader named Palash Sharif has been suspended from his organization for his alleged involvement in the theft of computers from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) in Gopalganj.

This was confirmed in a press release signed by president of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Jubo League unit Jahed Mahmud Bappi and its general secretary Mollah Md Firoj Mahmud in the early hours of Saturday.

49 computers were stolen reportedly within a week from the Central Library of the university this year amid the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

Registrar of the university Dr Md Nuruddin Ahmed filed a case with Gopalganj police station on August 10 in this connection.

Acting on a tiff-off, a drive was conducted at ‘Jisan International’ hotel in Dhaka’s Mohakhali on the night of August 13 and 34 out of the computers stolen were recovered during the drive.

Two people named Humayun and Dulal were detained in this connection.

Police said, a group including Palash Sharif was involved in the theft of computers from the university according to the primary interrogation of the detainees. Since then, Palash Sharif has been on the run.
