500 trucks stuck at Paturia-Daulatdia ferry terminal

Pressure on Paturia-Daulatdia route has increased as ferry services on the Padma River’s Shimulia-Kathalbari route have been suspended.

About 500 loaded trucks were waiting in queues at Paturia-Daulatdia ferry terminal to cross the Padma river around 11.00am on Thursday.

Buses and private cars are being transported on priority basis as a result many trucks have been struck at the ferry terminal, sources said.

In-Charge of Barongail Highway Police Outpost Basudev Sinha said buses and private cars are being transported on priority basis as a result many trucks have been stuck in Uthuli area. After transporting buses and private cars, loaded trucks will be transported.

18 ferries out 19 are being operated but many loaded trucks are waiting in queues to cross the river. The ferry, Banalata, is out of order but it is being repaired, said Md Salam Hossain, manager of Paturia Ferry Ghat of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).
