SI Hassan suspended for allegedly assisting SI Akbar to flee

Sub-Inspector (SI) Hassan Uddin, 2IC of Bandar Bazar Police outpost of Sylhet, has temporarily been suspended for allegedly assisting suspended SI Akbar, in-charge of the outpost, to flee after killing of Raihan and for concealing information on the matter.

An e-mail message sent to media by Sylhet Metropolitan Police (media department) confirmed the matter on Wednesday (October 21) afternoon.

When contacted, SMP deputy commissioner (media & communication) BM Ashraf Ullah Taher could not be reached over mobile phone to ask the matter even after trying several times.

On early October 11 (Sunday), Raihan was taken to Bandar Bazar Police outpost, where he was mercilessly tortured, according to media reports. 

Later, he died at the hospital while undergoing treatment. At night of the day, his wife Tahmina Akter filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against unknown accused in this connection.

After the incident, four policemen were temporarily suspended and three withdrawn. Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is investigating into the case.

The suspended police members are: Outpost in-charge SI Akbar Hossain, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Touhid Mia, constable Titu Chandra Das and Harunur Rashid.

The withdrawn cops are: Assistant Sup-Inspector (ASI) Ashiq Elahi, ASI Kutub Ali and Constable Sajib Hossain.

Of them, SI Akbar is fugitive. Constable Tutul was shown arrested. The others are under police custody at Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).
